Monday, 3-12-12

Today we started off with studying our people for the Rosenberg’s trial. The trial will officially start on March 15^th. Next was math. We dealt with shapes. Yay shapes! No not like that like geometry. Not fun. Also I hope all of us got our math assignments done on time. You should also get your Re-Dos done and not wait to do it till the last minute.

            Next off was reading. We did our analogies and got right down to our books. Today in English class we finished up our Friday DGP. (Daily Grammar Practice) Then we got right onto Monday DGP, identifying parts of speech. We also got onto our lesson vocab 15 using Terminology on our iPads. We also talked about cheating. There were all sorts of different ways we identified cheating. Honestly after all that work of trying to cheat just study. It will save you a lot of time.

            When we got onto science we learned about how maybe sometimes the solar light things aren’t always as they turn out to be. Does it have something to do with the glass? Maybe the shape? Or even maybe something else? That’s what BayLee Colfack asked. He outsmarted Mr. Corkle.

            Now almost to the ending of school was technology for my class. We did the Marshmallow Challenge. It taught us to never give up, even thought things aren’t working. Also what we learned is that adults who work in business companies failed the marshmallow challenge. Also that kindergarteners do the marshmallow challenge the best.

            Then after our classes, we get to the starting of Track. I can’t believe track season is already here. Go Eagles!

            Another thing that is coming up is St. Pat’s day. What could be better than a parade in the state Irish capital? Maybe a lot of things, but it is good to support St. Pat’s and O’Neill.

Wednesday, 3-7-12

            Today for my first period math class we finished up our notes and did the worksheet sk. 7-4 and omitted number 4 on the front. Then for English class for the first fifteen minutes we had somewhat of a work time.  For those fifteen minutes we had the option to either study vocabulary, read, vocabulary workbook, or if you were given a sheet for the complex/compound sentences you had to that. Then Mrs. Troester told us about the new essay we would have to write. The main topic of this essay has to be on your favorite place in Nebraska. Then we had the rest of the class period to work on the essay. We will also have Thursday to work on it. By Friday morning it has to be complete because we will do something else with them. Mrs. Troester chose not to tell us what that would exactly be. For Science we finally did the carbon dioxide experiment. Then in Mr. Corkle’s words we did a fun activity on the board. For civics we got entirely off topic. After our daily geography questions and the president of the day we had our test over the Bill of Rights. After that riveting test we had to research the song We Didn’t Start the Fire, which Mr. Hostert said would lead us into our new unit so to speak. Then it was time for study hall, which really needs no more said about it. For reading class we had the remaining people who haven’t presented there book projects. Those three people were Jayde, Riley, and I Andrew. Next we got to read two speeches and answer side questions in our interactive readers. We also had to do the eight questions at the end. I really don’t feel that talking about seventh period because it really depends on which rotation you’re in. Eighth period PE was fun as always. Some groups were in just the plain gym and some groups had to go to tumbling. Also one group had to go to the weight room. That is what happened today. I hope you all had a great day for those of you who actually go to OHS.

Tuesday, March 6th

     Daily Grammar practice is back! Today in 8th grade English, Mrs. Morrow helped us, yet again, label the parts of speech in sentences for our DGP. We worked with nouns, pronouns, adverbs, prepositions, verbs, articles, and adjectives. If it's a part of speech, we got it! We also worked on our practice with compound sentences; it isn't as easy as you may think. Our iPads are a big hit, and everyone seems to be growing more and more everyday we use them. Hopefully Mrs. Shane and the school board feel we are improving enough to buy the whole school iPads. ;)

In English today we started up daily blogger again this month but we don't use the iPod we use the IPAD!!!!!! Talked about some root words and we have to get vocabulary due.

Thursday, 2-9-12

    Today, English was nothing out of the ordinary except for one thing: Mrs. Morrow was gone!  No one knows for sure where she is hiding, but we will surely find her eventually.  Mrs. Troester took over for Mrs. Morrow and helped us with our Daily Grammar Practice, also known as DGP.  We figured out what type of sentence it was and added correct spelling and punctuation; we will become better sentence writers throughout this study.  Also, we started a new place conscious unit.  In this unit we are picking out a picture in the Nebraska Life magazine to write a poem about.  Our teachers feel it is important for us to be educated about our surroundings so we feel welcomed no matter where we are.  Students will have to be creative and imaginative throughout this interesting unit.

Today in 8th grade English we talked manly about use getting IPADS! I think that this will be the most interesting  rest of the year. I think this mainly because this is the first time they are doing this. Mrs. Morrow wants to see if it will  improve our reading and writing skills. But that is not all we talked about.  We also talked about compound sentences. This is Robbi with the daily news thanks for listening.

What better way then to start English with sentence structures? “he was a very silent man by custom” is our sentence of the week in English. We write the sentence on a sheet of paper. Each day of the week we add more corrections. Monday’s corrections were to identify the parts of speech. We found nouns and verbs, conjunctions and adjectives.

Reading was another story. We got a new book The Hunger Games. We have to do questions that go with the book that we have to answer. Some people who already read the first book either read the second one or some other free read book. That is a typical day in our English class.
