Tuesday, 11-22-11

by Miles Stagmeyer

Today could be described as anything but normal. Over half the 8th grade was gone on a field trip to Norfolk. Classes were so dead, you could hear a pin drop. English was really quiet, but we worked hard. We watched videos that schools had made about solutions to their problems for Challenge Based Learning. We then worked on finding the questions that we wanted to use for our solution.
Everyone seemed to be excited for the short day tomorrow, because we get out early for Thanksgiving. Nothing much has happened locally, but we get to hear plenty about the Wall Street riots on the radio.
As we enter the Thanksgiving, holiday let’s be thankful for everything we have. I know we had a bountiful corn and deer harvest in the area. We wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving!!!! Mmmmm……… I can taste the juicy turkey already!!

Today was a long day for me.  In Geography we did the usual: 2 questions, a few jokes, and a country.  Then we took some notes on South America and got an iMovie project on a South American topic of our choice.
We had a 2 math assignments due Wednesday.  We can do them both today, or both tomorrow.  We can do them in any order, as long as they’re in by Wednesday.
In Reading today, we reviewed for the chapter 4 test.  When we were in English we got to pick our favorite piece of writing to post in the “Coffeehouse” forum.  Also, we worked on simple sentences 2A and 2B.
For Science, we had to answer a few short review questions.  After we answered them by ourselves, we got in small groups to compare answers with our friends’.  After we checked them in small groups, we went over them in class to make sure everyone under stood what they were doing.
During Ag today, we were assigned a project, due on Wednesday.  The project was on any “row crop” of our choice.  After Ag today, we had basketball practice.  Practice today was long and a lot of running, I guess we were out of shape from the weekend.

Monday 11-21-11

by Vionne Trizila

What a bright and lovely day OHS! In Writing, we posted our favorite piece of writing onto the Coffee House, which is part of the SPUR project, in which we post, give, and get feedback on our writing. We all have small groups, and they are the ones we get and give feedback to and from.
After English comes Reading. Today was the day that we were going to show our projects on a book we read. I was so nervous! But, I got up the guts and went anyways. Turns out it wasn’t absolutely terrible. As soon as the bell rings, I’m off to Geography!
Wow! In geography we met one of the highest ranked congressmen AND he took part in guest geography along with Mrs. Crumly! How exciting! After that we went on to learn more about South America, which has 13 countries which 9 of them speak Spanish, but the biggest country in South America (Brazil) is Portuguese speaking!
When sixth period finally comes along, it’s science. We answered questions that Mr. Corkle said we must be able to answer if he asked us the next day, or 2 years from now!
I just gave you a brief summary of the day, although it could be classified as a “normal, boring” Monday, it was better then most.

Tuesday, 11-15-11

Today was you ordinary average day. Except for in English. It was a bit chaotic. We had a lot of things to get done. On Monday, we made a trip to Lincoln. In the end, we had to write about our day or what we saw at an Art Museum. So the next day, we had to post our writing to the Writing forum and our blogs. Our classmates had to give feedback on our posts. If you didn't get it done, you would get a detention. Work on your homework everyone! In the end, it seemed like a very eventful day. Who knows what will happen tomorrow.

Field Trip Day
by Walker Liewer

Today in English we took a trip to Lincoln, Nebraska. While in Lincoln, we met the people in our writing exchange groups. But before doing this, we got to tour the campus of UNL. We arrived and walked to the Student Union. We then toured the campus, walking to the eastern part of Memorial Stadium. We then continued east, stopped to take a picture with a giant mammoth, then headed back to the Student Union. We all got something to eat, then went to the basement to visit the Husker Adidas Store.
After our shopping spree here, we headed to the Alumni building where we were meeting the people in our group. We sat down with a plate full of pizza, and introduced ourselves to the other people in our group. Then, each class and school picked a few kids to read a piece of writing they brought. By the time everyone was done, we had run out of time. We said goodbye to the people in our group then we split into 4th and 6th periods and went to write around campus.
4th period went to the Library, then to Art Museum. Once everyone was done writing, we walked back to the bus where we prepared for a long trip home.

"Now would anyone like to share their writing?" this was the sentence everyone dreaded, but a few brave souls went up and shared their writing. Some Of the pieces were funny and some were sad either way they were all wonderful. During our visit we got to walk around campus. We saw lots of art sculptures and one was of just a  head. Some of them might have surprised some people. Well I hope we all hade a good time I know I did. This is the daily blogger signing off. Bye!!!

Happy Veteran’s Day! Today the O’Neill High School including the 8th grade writing class walked to St. Mary’s High School to watch the Veteran’s Day program. We did everything from the Pledge of Allegiance to watching the band and choir perform. As a closing a speaker talked to us about the fact that you don’t have to be old and graying to be a veteran, a veteran can be anyone including your fellow classmates someday.
We then walked back to our school and still had twenty-five minutes of class left and worked on our Letters About Literature- a letter written to an author of a student’s choice about his or her book or series and how it impacted our lives.
That’s all for Friday, as we end the day with a salute to those who served for our country.

November 11, 2011,

First of all, Happy Veteran’s Day! I think we have all heard the Veteran’s Day speech, but do we really think about it? They were the men and women, but mostly men, which have given us the freedom we have. Like freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and more! For a change O’Neill Public High School walked a couple blocks to St. Mary’s for this years Veteran’s Day Program. We are alternating every other year. The program took up almost 2 class periods!!
Today is not only Veteran’s Day, but also 11-11-11. I think that is cool because we only have 1 more year of this until another 100 years pass. For most of us 12-12-12 will be the last month, date, and year that are the same in our lifetimes! Other than that, it has been a pretty short and ordinary week at O’Neill High!

Today in English Class we talked about how to be a good writer. What we should have in are writing and how is should look. This is a list of what needs to be in your writing.  We also talked about if you were a judge would you waste your time just going over stuff that has a lot of mistakes? Would you just toss it?
Look at the list and see if you have ever used any of this stuff. If not I would try using it, it could make you a better writer. That’s what we talked about at 8th English Class!
 Thanks for listening.

Today in the Big O it was just another Monday, tired and quiet.  Though in English it got a little more exciting…vocab!  Also today in English class we gave feedback to our other group members in the writing forum.

Today for our school lunch we had macaroni and cheese and hamburgers or something like that.

Well since this is America there is Monday Night Football on tonight!  Tonight the Eagles and the Bears face off.  This isn’t working out near as well for the NBA; they are in the 129th day of their lockout.  Hopefully they will resolve their issues and get back to playing.  Also today in America Michael Jackson’s doctor was convicted of murdering him.

Today was just a regular day at OHS our first period class was civics with Mr. Hostert. We worked on our power points in class and he assigned us our assignments. Next we move on to math with Mr. Hilker. We studied for our test. Then we had Mrs. Hostert and Mrs. Troester we took a quiz about following directions. After that we went to English class with Mrs. Morrow and Mrs. Troester, except Mrs. Morrow wasn't there today. We talked about going to Lincoln on Monday for our writing forums. After that we had band. It was just a normal day in that class. We had SH after that with Mr. Hilker. We usually don't get much stuff done in SH! We went to lunch! The Chef Keith came he made a cheese tortellini. I wasn't a big fan of it, everyone else liked it. We trotted down to the science room where we found a substitute teacher. It was Mrs. Scheinder. Finally we were getting to the end of the day! We had business trends after science but we had to go to the AG room for seatbelt safety and not to drink and drive. That took about the class time of business trends. We wandered off into the gym where we had P.E. Yuck! It's just the usual in P.E. We ran for five minutes and group three went to the weight room. While they were doing that we played knock-out and did some lay-ups. The day was finally over! Just an average day at OHS.
